The Palestinian Authority responded acerbically to remarks made by Education Minister Naftali Bennett against the establishment of a "Palestinian" state.

In an official statement from Ramallah, it was said that the positions of the Israeli government "expose the nakedness of the countries that claim to uphold the principles of human rights and international legitimacy, as well as hold to scrutiny the ability of the international community to honor its decisions and bear responsibility for their implementation.

"The Palestinian state, whose capital is occupied East Jerusalem, is an historical and legal right vested in the original owners of the land, as approved by the international legitimacy resolutions, and the signed agreements, and the principles of international law, including Resolution 181."

Israel's policy, according to the Palestinian Foreign Ministry, is a blow to US efforts to renew political negotiations and comprises blatant disregard for international law and international legitimacy.
