Lieutenant Colonel Shai Siman-Tov commanded Golani's 12th Battalion, and was seriously wounded during 2014's Operation Protective Edge when a tunnel collapsed on him. Paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair, he embarked on a long period of recovery.

On Thursday, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkot decided to promote him to the rank of Colonel in appreciation of his long journey back to the IDF.

The Chief of Staff decided to grant the rank after hearing the recommendation of the Ground Forces Commander, Major General Kobi Barak and the College Commander, Major General Tamir Heiman.

Siman-Tov had returned to service in October 2015 and today serves as a team commander at the Tactical Command College. Lt. Col. Siman-Tov attended the military boarding school in Haifa and joined the Barak Battalion in the Golani Brigade in 1996.

During the Second Lebanon War he fought as a company commander in the Egoz unit and during Operation Cast Lead he served as deputy commander of the Golani Brigade's 13th Battalion.
