MK Aida Touma-Suleiman (Joint List) warned on Tuesday that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu could start a war in an attempt to escape his legal troubles.

Speaking with the Palestine newspaper, which is affiliated with Hamas, Touma-Suleiman said that the “occupation government” had embarked on aggressive wars against the Palestinian people and other local peoples in the past.

She further claimed that Netanyahu wants to gain the authority to declare war in order to escape the crises he faces, an apparent reference to a report this week that Netanyahu is promoting an amendment to the law which would allow him to declare war without the need for prior approval by the government.

Touma-Suleiman called Netanyahu a "racist" and claimed that whenever he has encountered an internal crisis, he has tried to save himself from it by aggressively attacking external elements to draw attention from his internal distress and to instill in Israelis a feeling that they were in danger and therefore must unite around him.

The Arab MK has in the past accused Netanyahu of “deliberate incitement” against the Arab MKs which, she claimed, has been increasing since the elections.

Touma-Suleiman made the comments last year after three MKs from her party were suspended by the Knesset Ethics Committee for meeting families of terrorists.
