A woman in her 40s is in critical condition after suffocating while eating a meal at a restaurant in Ramat Gan.
Paramedics who were called to the scene provided the woman with medical treatment and evacuated her to the Tel Hashomer Hospital while performing CPR on her.
"I sat with my husband in a restaurant when suddenly I saw a woman in her 40s choking near me,” said one of the paramedics, who happened to be at the restaurant at the time of the incident.
“I immediately approached her and, as I instructed my husband to go quickly to the car and bring me the bag of medical equipment I had in my possession, I took quick initial actions in order to try to extract the food that was stuck in her throat,” she added.
"During the medical treatment, she collapsed and lost consciousness. Together with a waitress, I performed basic CPR and within a few minutes a Magen David Adom intensive care unit which arrived at the scene continued the medical treatment. The paramedic extracted the food from her throat using special medical equipment and she was evacuated in very serious condition to the hospital,” said the paramedic.
