The Cabinet decided today that residents of the Palestinian Authority will no longer be able to acquire Israeli citizenship merely by virtue of having married an Israeli citizen. It thus approved Interior Minister Eli Yeshai\'s proposal regarding family unification policies for PA residents. The Interior Ministry and other relevant government ministries will formulate a new policy to deal with the above, but until such time, no new requests by PA residents for official Israeli status will be accepted. In addition, the foreign spouse will be \"required to remain outside Israel until such time as a different decision is reached.\"



In summarizing the issue, Prime Minister Sharon noted that this is a national mission, and that implementation of the decision must start immediately.
