A one-and-a-half-year old boy suffered moderate injuries on Friday when he nearly drowned in a swimming pool in the Gilboa region in northern Israel.
After the boy was rescued from the water, MDA and United Hatzalah emergency first responders were called to the scene.
Paramedics provided emergency first aid to the boy, then evacuated him to the Haemek Hospital in Afula.
“When I got there, I found a boy who was unconscious after nearly drowning in the private swimming pool of the vacation home his family was staying in for summer vacation,” said United Hatzalah volunteer Adi Kanias.
“Miraculously, during resuscitation attempts and medical treatment performed with the help of a nurse who lives in the area, the boy regained full consciousness and his condition has been listed as moderate.”
Following the incident, police repeated their call to vacationing families not to leave any children unattended near swimming pools or other bodies of water.
“Most incidents of drowning occur quickly and quietly during those brief moments when no one is watching [children].”
