'Harry Potter' author JK Rowling apologized Monday for incorrectly accusing US President Donald Trump of ignoring a disabled child.

A partial video circulated online appeared to show President Trump refusing to shake the outstretched hand of a disabled three year old boy.

"How stunning, and how horrible, that Trump cannot bring himself to shake the hand of a small boy who only wanted to touch the president," Rowling wrote on her Twitter account.

However, Marjorie Kelly Weer, the mother of the child in the video, said that Rowling had misinterpreted the video. Unedited footage showed the president bending down to greet the child at eye-level and to shake his hand.

Rowling apologized to the family of the child and deleted the tweets with the false accusations.

"Re: my tweets about the small boy in a wheelchair whose proffered hand the president appeared to ignore in press footage," 'the Harry Potter' tweeted.

"Multiple sources have informed me that that was not a full or accurate representation of their interaction.

"I very clearly projected my own sensitivities around the issue of disabled people being overlooked or ignored onto the images I saw and if that caused any distress to that boy or his family, I apologise unreservedly."

Rowling did not apologize to the president.
