Building in Jerusalem is seeing its lowest numbers since 2008, according to a Channel 2 report.

According to the report, which cited details obtained from Housing Minister Yoav Galant, 2016 saw construction begun on 2,051 units in Jerusalem. In contrast, the data showed that construction of 3,093 units had been started in 2015, 3,210 in 2014, and 3,475 in 2013.

The data indicated that less housing units had been started in 2016 than any year since 2008, when 1,561 had been started.

The report comes as the Knesset approved the “Jerusalem Law” in preliminary reading Wednesday afternoon. The Law would would require a special majority of two-thirds of the entire Knesset, or 80 MKs, to approve any partition of the city.

“[The Law requires] a solid Jewish majority [to divide Jerusalem] - which will never happen, and therefore we are talking about the fortification of Jerusalem," Education Minister Naftali Bennett, who spearheaded the Bill, told Arutz Sheva.
