The IDF has begun calling up reserves and deploying forces in the Gaza region, in anticipation of a military offensive against the PLO’s terrorist infrastructure there. Israel\'s security cabinet, which convened last night upon Prime Minister Sharon\'s return from the United States, authorized Sharon and Defense Minister Ben-Eliezer to prepare an operation in response to Tuesday night’s suicide bombing in Rishon LeTzion that left 15 Israelis dead.
Details about the Gaza plan prepared by have not yet been revealed, but local Arabs are taking no chances: Many of them have found hideouts in other Gaza locations, some command centers have been evacuated, and there are even reports that the terrorists have mined roads on which IDF forces are to travel.
The security cabinet also discussed the action to be taken against PLO leader Yasser Arafat, but no decision was made. Several ministers suggested that Arafat be deported. MK Michael Kleiner (Herut) recommended this morning that Arafat not be deported, but rather ‘liquidated\' as a mass-murderer.
