The Border Police and the Israel Police on Tuesday evening honored the hundreds of officers who are serving in Jerusalem and guarding the Israeli capital from threats of terrorism.

The event was held in the presence of Border Police Commander Major General Yaakov (Kobi) Shabtai, Jerusalem Border Police Commander Brigadier General Itzik Saban, retired commanders, bereaved families, and hundreds of officers, fighters and Border Police officers who are serving in the city.

"Many generations dreamed of defending Jerusalem and we have been given the right to defend it," Shabtai said in his remarks. "Unfortunately, we are paying a heavy price for the right to defend Jerusalem. Hadas Malka and Hadar Cohen are two fighters who fell in battle, and who showed courage and determination in defending the capital of Israel. "

"Hadas's father told me a sentence that Hadas told him in one of their Shabbat meals and that I would like to quote on this occasion: ‘If we do not defend Jerusalem, we will not have Jerusalem, and if we do not have Jerusalem we will not have a country,’" continued Shabtai, quoting the words of the Border Policewoman who was murdered in the recent terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem.

"Continue to defend the capital of the State of Israel and provide security to its residents and visitors. I would like to say thank you to each and every one of you for the professional work you do every day, every hour,” he concluded.
