MDA teams in were called to a home in Mitzpeh Ramon Thursday afternoon following reports of a toddler who apparently choked on his lunch.

The team provided the child with immediate medical treatment and evacuated him with the help of an MDA helicopter to Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva, where his condition is listed as serious but stable. The child was put under anesthesia and is breathing with the aid of a respirator.

MDA Paramedic Barak Wittenberg said, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw the toddler in the hands of people who were performing basic medical resuscitation operations [on the child]. He was in critical condition."

"We took him and began to provide him with advanced medical treatment with the help of special equipment available in MDA intensive care units in order to try to remove the foreign body from the windpipe. At the same time, we contacted the center to send us an MDA helicopter [to evacuate the child quickly].

"The paramedics who were in the helicopter continued to provide him with life-saving medical care, including anesthesia and respiratory aid, and quickly evacuated him to the hospital, where his condition was defined as serious but stable."
