A police officer and two bystanders was wounded at a Munich train station Tuesday morning when a man stole a female officer’s firearm and opened fire on a crowd.

Munich police have reported that the 26-year old female officer was in critical condition after the shooting.

"Several people were injured by shots,” police said via Twitter. A female police officer was badly wounded."

Authorities say the suspect in the shooting has been taken into custody. The gunman was reportedly shot by police during the incident prior to being arrested.

Police placed the train station on lock-down immediately following the incident.

Munich police department spokesman Michael Riehlein later said that the area had been secured and that there was no danger to the public. Train service in the area has been suspended, however.

Investigators say the incident does not appear to be a terrorist attack, though the possibility has not been ruled out.
