The United States has retracted its signature from the charter to establish an international criminal court. The American consent was originally given in the waning days of the Clinton Administration, but the U.S. has now announced that such a court would have such wide-ranging powers that it would impinge on countries\' sovereignty. Israel has also not agreed to the charter, despite the best efforts of former Justice Minister Yossi Beilin.
