According to a Washington Times report, last week\'s IDF incursion into PLO-controlled Kalkilya thwarted a massive attack on Tel Aviv\'s Azrieli Skyscrapers. An elite army unit managed to stop a truck filled with explosives before it could be dispatched to its intended target. Authorities say that the casualties from such a bombing could have paralleled the September 11 attack on New York’s World Trade Center.
Security officials say that the terrorists planned to park the truck in one of the underground parking lots beneath Israel’s tallest buildings. The Times report says that at least two persons apprehended for their involvement in planning the attack are members of the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
The report adds that officials are not ruling out the possibility that a small plane shot down by Israel last year, which entered Israeli airspace from Lebanon, was on its way to crash into the towers. The attack would have apparently been a ‘test run’ prior to the World Trade Center massacre.
