Police arrested Wednesday a 67-year-old Haifa resident on suspicion of running over and killing 16-year-old Nada Ivdah of Haifa, after which he allegedly left her there and fled the scene.

Police arrived at the house of the driver, who did not give himself up voluntarily, and arrested him. His car was found in a carpark near the Talpiot market in Haifa.

Police said that "after a combined and thorough interrogation by the technical investigators and traffic inspectors, which started immediately on their arrival at the scene of the accident and continued throughout the night and morning, the suspected driver was located."

Police added that "the investigation included use of technological methods as well as testimony of onlookers and evidence gleaned from the scene of the accident."

Inspectors will ask the Haifa court this evening to extend the remand of the suspect.

The father of the dead girl said that she was with four of her friends when she crossed the road on a crosswalk when "suddenly a car came driving at high speed and hit her, threw her 20 meters and escaped from the scene."
