Speaking at the US Capitol at a special event marking the 50th anniversary of Jerusalem's liberation and unification, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) said UN the UN should be looking at what's going on in Syria, North Korea, Iran and Russia – and not focus on Israel.
Barrasso was flanked by Martin Oliner, President of the Center for Unity and of Religious Zionists of America. This is the text of his speech:
Thank you so much. I wanted to celebrate this 50th anniversary along with my friend Sen. Cardin who just spoke with you. He and I both work together on the Foreign Relations Committee. And while the Republicans and Democrats might fight about a lot of things, what we are 100% united on – which means we have a hundred senators in the United States Senate who are committed to reining in the United Nations and the abuses that we have seen there.
A hundred of us signed a letter to the Secretary-General, saying that this must stop. This will stop. The US is funding this. We as a Senate say: "It is time to get rid of what you are doing at the United Nations [against Israel]." I mean, to think of this: The commission which has an agenda item against human rights abuses, they ought to be looking at what's going on in Syria and north Korea and Iran and Russia.
The people of Israel, we stand singly with you. We’ll continue to do that in every way, and that’s not a Republican position, that’s not a Democrat position. It’s an American position.
