PLO sources are reporting that a deal has been reached to end the 35-day-old standoff at Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity. Israeli and Arab negotiators have been working nearly around the clock to determine the fate of those inside the church including: Arabs on Israel’s wanted list, other PLO gunmen, and the hostages themselves including Christian clergy members.
According to the Arab sources, most of the Palestinians involved in causing the standoff will be released without consequence. In addition, about 30 terrorists wanted by Israel will be permitted to ‘stand trial’ in a Palestinian court in Gaza, while six to eight others will be deported to Italy. The Italian government has agreed to give the men a new home.
