The Movement for a Jewish and Democratic State has protested the publication of an interview between IDF spokesman Brigadier General Moti Almoz and a homosexual soldier from the religious sector.

"It seems that the IDF spokesman is endeavoring to broaden and deepen the rift with Religious Zionism. Time after time IDF spokesman Moti Almoz involves the army in ideological disputes which should best be resolved outside the army," the movement stated, adding that "we have one army, why not keep it united?"

The IDF spokesman also approved an interview last year with transgender soldiers who attacked incoming Army Chief Rabbi Eyal Karim.

Almoz also attacked Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu and used derogatory terms to describe him. Almoz's expressions and conduct led the Movement for a Jewish and Democratic State to petition the Supreme Court against his appointment as Head of the IDF Manpower Directorate, but the court rejected the petition and upheld his appointment.

Recently before the pubication of the interview, Almoz had attempted to convey a more conciliatory message towards Religious Zionists in an article published in the BeSheva newspaper and in interviews with Arutz Sheva.
