Newly appointed US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, who arrived in Israel this afternoon, drove straight to the Western Wall, the last remnant of the Temple Mount complex constructed around Judaism's holiest site, the Holy Temple.

The Ambassador arrived with his wife and daughter.

Ambassador Friedman kissed the 2,000 year old Herodian stones of the Western Wall and said a private prayer.

"It was a long trip," Friedman told reporters after he had said his prayers. "But we wanted to come straight to the holiest place in the entire Jewish world...straight from the airport."

"I prayed for the health of my family, my children, my grandchildren. I prayed for the President and I wished him success, especially on his upcoming trip. I hope we all wish him success.

"And I said the blessing that one says when he reaches a new milestone: 'Bless the lord that he was able to sustain us and bring us to this very special moment in time."

"God bless the United States and God bless the State of Israel and God bless the connection between them."
