Israeli Ambassador to France Aliza Bin-Noun on Monday morning spoke to Kol Barama Radio about the results of Sunday's French elections.
"Our preference for Macron was clear, and expressed by both the Foreign Ministry and President Reuven Rivlin," Ben-Noun said.
"During his 2015 visit to Israel, Macron spoke very favorably about Israel and expressed a desire to cooperate with Israel in the field of technology.
"He was also one of the first to speak out against the boycott against Israel."
However, Bin-Noun warned Israelis not to expect a policy change any time soon.
"When it comes to diplomacy, we have a lot of work ahead of us," she said. "Macron's policies are similar to those of France's Foreign Ministry and those of the outgoing French government. For instance, he supports 'two states for two peoples,' even though this goes against [certain elements of]Israel's policy."
Regarding MK Oren Hazan's (Likud) tweet about Marine Le Pen and his implied criticism of Macron, Bin-Noun said, "This was not productive. Right after Oren Hazan's tweet in favor of Le Pen, we emphasized that Israel supports Macron and opposes Le Pen and what she represents."
