The resignation of Labor Party Secretary-General MK Raanan Cohen from the Knesset, which will take effect next week, will double the amount of Knesset Members from the Meimad party. In place of Cohen will come Rabbi Yehuda Gil\'ad of the left-wing religious Zionist party Meimad, which joined together with Labor and Gesher in the previous Knesset.
The list of Labor-Gesher-Meimad candidates, set in 1999, had Rabbi Gil\'ad as number 32. The party garnered 26 seats, and Cohen is the 6th Labor MK to resign (the others were Ehud Barak, Yossi Beilin, Minister Matan Vilnai, Uzi Baram, and Eli Goldschmidt). The new MK thus joins Deputy Minister Rabbi Michael Melchior in representing Meimad in the Knesset.
