GSS (General Security Service/Shin Bet) officials say that the IDF operation in the PLO controlled town of Kalkilya on Friday and Saturday prevented a terrorist massacre. The officials believe that a booby-trapped car full of powerful explosives discovered during the offensive was to be used by Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorists in an attempt to blow up a Tel-Aviv skyscraper.
Also during the operation, three Arabs were killed and 46 were arrested, including wanted terrorists. One of those detained was Kalkilya PFLP head Mussa Ibrahim Nazal. Nazal was responsible for the suicide bombing at a Karnei Shormon Pizzeria that killed three Israelis. The IDF also uncovered bomb-making factories and explosives during the operation.
