Traditional Islamic prayers will be broadcast live over Danish state television this coming Friday. The Friday prayers, the most widely attended of the Moslem week, will be broadcast in Danish from a mosque in Copenhagen. Imam Abdul Wahid Pedersen, a Danish Protestant who converted to Islam, will lead the service. While there are approximately 170,000 Moslems in Denmark, the number of mosques is relatively small due to public opposition. Danish TV explained the Friday broadcast as providing a window into the world of Islam, heretofore unknown to most Danes.
