Despite the official end of Operation Defense Shield, Israel’s war on terror continues in a more minor way throughout the country. It was revealed today that in the last several weeks, the GSS (General Security Service) and IDF forces apprehended a terrorist cell involved in numerous fatal terrorist attacks against Jews in Jerusalem and Binyamin. The five were responsible for the murders of Akiva Pashkoz of Jerusalem (in Atarot), Yoela Chen and Ronen Landau in separate attacks outside Givat Ze\'ev, Sharon Bar-Shalom and her husband Yaniv and her brother Doron Sviri last summer on the Modiin Highway, and Jerusalem resident Meir Weishaus on the French Hill-Ramot highway. They were also involved in other attacks resulting in Israeli deaths and injuries, and were supervised by Ahmed Barghouti - Marwan Barghouti\'s nephew who was recently arrested with him and who reported directly to him.

Early this morning IDF troops arrested senior Fatah terrorist Mu’ataz Eimuni near the village of Beit Kahil, northwest of Hevron. Eimuni is responsible for a series of attacks against Israelis in the Hevron area. During the arrest, five members of the Palestinian Authority police force opened fire from their vehicle on the soldiers. The troops returned fire and killed all the five attackers.

Also this morning, Israeli troops and tanks entered PLO-controlled areas inside of Hevron, in pursuit of another wanted terrorist. The forces were successful in arresting the Arab man responsible for sending the teenage-female suicide bomber into Jerusalem’s Machane Yehudah market two weeks ago. Six people were killed in that attack.

Elsewhere today, Border Guard police south of Shechem apprehended two members of the PLO intelligence services who were involved in the murderous attack on the IDF checkpoint at ‘Ein Arik, west of Ramallah. Six Israeli soldiers were killed there in February when several armed PLO militiamen infiltrated the checkpoint and fired at them from very close range.

IDF soldiers in the Kalkilye area, east of Herzliya, stopped a Red Crescent ambulance today for a routine inspection, only to find that one of the crewmembers was wanted for Palestinian terrorist activity. The man was taken into custody, and the ambulance was permitted to continue on its way. Israel had complained to the International Red Cross several times about many Arab violations of the international ban against using medical vehicles for violent activity.
