Despite the announcement that Operation Defense Shield has concluded, Israel continues to fight terror on its own doorstep. Early this morning Israeli troops, backed by tanks, entered PLO controlled areas in the town of Hevron in pursuit of wanted terrorists. During the operation, gun battles erupted between the IDF and local Arabs. Officials say that a member of Yasser Arafat’s Force 17 was killed. In addition, four Arabs were taken into custody.
Throughout the day yesterday, Israeli Border Policeman carried out anti-terror operations. Forces arrested a senior wanted Tanzim operative in the Arab village of Jaba, in the northern Shomron. The IDF spokesman says that the Arab was responsible for dispatching a suicide bomber. He was found in possession of ammunition and pictures of several suicide bombers. During the operation four other wanted Arabs were arrested.
