Lt.-Col. Tal, who lives in a Jezreel Valley with his wife and three daughters, fought in the recent anti-terrorism offensive in Jenin. \"[We] went to great lengths to avoid hurting civilians,\" he said. \"[We] discovered that the Palestinian shooters were using civilians as shields. A shooter inside a house might hide behind an old woman, firing at [us]. Bombs and booby traps were everywhere. If Israelis killed a Palestinian, the dead man\'s colleagues would booby trap his body. At one point, Palestinians booby trapped a wheelchair and pushed its occupant into the open in hope of attracting Israeli soldiers to become victims...\"

\"What\'s your opinion of the Palestinian fighter?\" Tal was asked. \"Have they become more determined?\" His response: \"In my eyes, they are not \'fighters.\' Someone who hides in a hospital, a graveyard, a church, or behind women and children -- that\'s not a fighter.\"

Although the world media continue to concentrate on the extent of Palestinian suffering in Jenin, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Website provides aerial photographs of Jenin showing the minuscule area of the city actually affected by the fighting.
