Prime Minister Sharon and Finance Minister Silvan Shalom came up with a plan last night to pay for the 19-month-old Oslo War - which most government ministers are against. Specifically, they are against the proposed abolition of child-allowance payments for parents who have not served in the army. Hareidi parties are against it because some of their families are both large and are supported by parents who have not been in the army, and Labor, Meretz, and the Arab parties are against it because it will deny such payments to Arab families. Prime Minister Sharon has asked Finance Ministry officials to provide him with alternative proposals within two days.
