
An IDF soldier was seriously injured on Monday night while training at a base in southern Israel, it was cleared for publication on Tuesday morning.
The soldier was evacuated by helicopter for medical treatment in a hospital, and his family was informed of the accident, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement.
It is not yet clear what caused the accident, and it is being investigated.
On Monday afternoon, a soldier was lightly injured in a training accident at the Adam training center. The accident occurred when an anti-terror training instructor accidentally shot a bullet into the ground and shrapnel slammed into the soldier's back.
Initial investigations found that the soldier was participating in a firing exercise at the Adam training center and during a dry run the instructor accidentally shot a pistol bullet on the ground. A ricocheting piece of shrapnel hit the soldier's back.
The soldier was lightly wounded by the shrapnel and was treated on the spot. The IDF opened an investigation into the accident.
