Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu met with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump in New York on Sunday morning (local time), one day before the much-anticipated first presidential debate of the 2016 general election.

The two met in Trump Tower in Manhattan for closed-door meeting, with no press conference scheduled afterwards.

The Israeli leader is scheduled to meet with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton later on Sunday. Like the meeting with Mr. Trump, the Clinton-Netanyahu sit-down will also be closed to reporters.

A government official told Arutz Sheva recently that requests from both the Clinton and Trump campaigns to meet with Netanyahu were received well in advance of his trip to New York.

On Monday, Trump and Clinton will faceoff in Hofstra University in New York in the first of three presidential debates. Polls show Mrs. Clinton narrowly ahead, well within the margin of error, making the debates a potentially game-changing event in what has already been a raucous election season.
