MK Oren Hazan (Likud) on Sunday attacked the behavior of the military prosecutor during the course of the trial of Elor Azariya, an IDF soldier charged with manslaughter after he shot a wounded terrorist minutes after a terror attack in Hevron.
"Instead of stopping this demon's dance, the military prosecutor is dragging the State of Israel and the government of Israel into a superfluous international complication," said Hazan.
Hazan called on the senior ranks of the army and security forces to direct the Military Prosecutor to reach a plea bargain agreement with Azaria's defense attorneys in order to "remove this unfortunate case from the national agenda."
"Due to an unnecessary and unfortunate political statement by the former Defense Minister, which he has already paid the price for by being ejected from his position in the political arena, the matter has become an international complication which is both damaging and superfluous."
Hazan added that "only a plea bargain could bring an end to this story without significant international and political repercussions and without severe damage to the soldier and his family and to all the people of Israel. It's time to see Elor come home to his family and to his unit."
