An IDF soldier was wounded Wednesday afternoon in a terrorist stabbing attack outside of the town of Yitzhar in Samaria.

Investigators say the attack occurred when a squad of Israeli soldiers pursued a group of Arab stone-throwers who had been targeting Israeli cars.

The stone-throwers, who were hurling rocks from within their car, fled on the ‘Gilad Road’, which connects Route 5 to Highway 60.

When the stone-throwers were cornered, one exited the vehicle and stabbed one of the pursuing soldiers in the neck. The attacker was quickly eliminated by other soldiers on the scene.

The wounded soldier was evacuated to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, which listed his injuries as light.

“Another terror attack was foiled in Samaria thanks to the resourcefulness of our soldiers,” said Samaria Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan. “I want to thank the soldiers who stand watch over the citizens of Israel.”

Dagan added that despite the prevention of what could have been a much more serious attack, the government respond firmly to the act of terror.

“I call upon the Israeli government not to brush off the incident as just ‘another attack’.”

The soldier wounded in the attack has since been released from the hospital.
