A newborn girl who was born at home was already dead when she was brought to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital on Thursday night.
Police and the Ministry of Health have been notified.
The hospital commented that "a tragic incident like this emphasizes once again the importance of having a 'home birth' within the protected environment of the hospital.
"We don't know, of course, at this time whether the baby could have been saved. Overall, Hadassah [promotes] the experience of home births which take place in the hospital, as natural births. There's always an option here for immediate medical attention for the infant or the mother in an emergency."
Most hospitals in Israel offer in-hospital "natural birth" options for parents who want a home-style delivery, while medical personnel stand by.
