Former Head of the Turkish air force, Akin Ozturk, has told interrogators that he "acted with intention to stage a coup," according to BBC.

In pictures taken after the interrogation, Ozturk could be seen with distinct injuries to his head.

Since the failed coup in Turkey last week, Turkish leader Recep Erdogan has responded without mercy. According to CNN, at least 161 civilians have been killed, 6,000 people have been arrested, and close to 3000 military officers have been detained. In addition, some 140 members of the Supreme Court have been taken into custody.

Pictures from arrests indicate that detainees have have been beaten and stripped of their clothes, and forced to kneel on the ground in uncomfortable and humiliating situations.
