Tonight begins Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day. The theme for this year’s special day is “Their Last Voice: Letters and Testaments from Jews in the Holocaust.” The official opening ceremony will take place tonight at 8:00 PM, at the Warsaw Ghetto Square, in the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.
President Moshe Katsav and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will participate in the ceremony. Mr. Avner Shalev, Chairman of the Yad Vashem Directorate, will kindle the Holocaust Memorial Torch.
During the ceremony Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau will recite Psalms, and Sephardic Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi Doron will chant the Kaddish prayer. Over 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazi regime between 1941-1945
