Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, spoke to Arutz Sheva at this week’s Israel Day event in New York.

“Even though it was raining, we saw the love for the State of Israel. We know that we have people who support Israel unconditionally,” said Danon.

“Being here at the UN knowing that we have the backing of the Jewish community,” he continued, “gives us a lot of courage and strength to stand up for the State of Israel.”

Every event in support of Israel is important, stressed Danon.

“The concert, the Seder we held at the UN where we brought ambassadors to learn about our heritage, we had ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ where the ambassadors came and learned about the heritage of the Jewish people. It all adds up, it all supports the great work of our mission here at the UN,” he added.

One such event was the anti-BDS conference that Danon recently organized and held at the UN headquarters.

“It was an historical moment to see 2,000 Jewish students inside the General Assembly, singing the national anthem of Israel and saying out loud, ‘We will fight BDS. We will fight them on campus, we will fight them in courts, we will fight BDS in the halls of the UN,’” said Danon.

“I want to welcome Governor Cuomo’s decision [against BDS]. I think that is the way to fight BDS. Not to be quiet about it, not to be afraid of it. To stand up and to fight back,” he stressed.
