Alert IDF soldiers prevented a catastrophe in the small community Rafiach Yam, on Israel’s southern Mediterranean coastal region, yesterday morning. Two Islamic Jihad terrorists armed with Kalachnikov assault rifles and grenades infiltrated the townlet by cutting through the surrounding electronic fence. The terrorists had started their approach towards the first row of houses when soldiers and members of the local emergency response team spotted the Arabs, and a gun battle ensued. The terrorists were killed, but managed to shoot and fatally wound 22-year-old Sergeant Nitzan Avraham. He will be laid to rest this afternoon in the military section of the Lod cemetery. Three other soldiers were wounded in the incident.

In another thwarted Arab attack over the weekend, two Israeli border police volunteers prevented a bomb attack at the Netivot Junction northwest of Be’er Sheva. At about 4:30 AM, the unit observed occupants of a vehicle without license plates fleeing the area after placing a suspicious bag in the intersection. The bomb squad was called in to investigate and sappers neutralized the nail-laden explosive device.

Two other bombs were also found; one yesterday, one today. One was a powerful explosive planted near the main Bethlehem area water supply line, which officials theorize was planted with the hope that IDF forces would detonate the bomb in a controlled blast and thus disrupt the area’s water supply. The Arabs would then have attempted to besmirch Israel in the eyes of the international community by claiming that Israel is withholding water from Bethlehem\'s civilian population. This morning, a donkey-bomb was found near the greenhouses of Morag, in Gush Katif. The donkey was tied to a wagon laden with a large explosive. Police forces arrived and safely dismantled the bomb.

The number of victims of the Pesach Seder massacre in Netanya rose this morning to 27, with the death of Sarah Levy, 88, of Tel Aviv. She was seriously injured in the suicide bomber\'s blast, and passed away today in Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.
