Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has been drawing fire from various politicians worldwide over his blunt calls to confront Islamist terrorism, and this week the Mayor of Paris joined the list of officials who have insulted the real estate mogul.

"Mr. Trump is stupid," Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo said in a meeting with the new London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

"He's very stupid. My God," she emphasized.

Her insults came after Khan earlier this week called Trump "ignorant" over his call from December to temporarily ban Muslim entry to the US out of concerns of radicalism.

When asked if the proposed ban would apply to Khan as well, who is Muslim, Trump said there would be exceptions - but the London mayor was not appeased.

"This isn’t just about me. It’s about my friends, my family and everyone who comes from a background similar to mine, anywhere in the world,” said Khan of the Labour party, which is currently embroiled in a massive anti-Semitism scandal.

"I think Donald Trump has ignorant views about Islam. It's not just about me, I don't want to be the exception to be allowed to go to America. You can be a Muslim, and you can be European. You can be a Parisian mayor and a London mayor and work closely together," said Khan.

"I hope Donald Trump looks to the lessons that London sent last Thursday and recognizes that it's possible to be Western and Muslim and to be friends with mayors of Paris as well," he said in reference to his own election victory.

Khan added that he hopes that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton "trounces him" in general elections in November.

Ironically, Trump on Wednesday softened his call to ban Muslim entry, emphasizing that it was "just a suggestion."

When asked if he would drop the ban, he said, "sure I'd back off on it. I'd like to back off on it as soon as possible, because frankly, I'd like to see something happen."

"But we have to be vigilant. There is a radical Islamic terrorism problem that our president doesn't even want to talk about."
