Israel’s National Student and Youth Council called a press conference on Sunday morning. During the press conference, the council’s chairman, Eliav Batito, declared that the secondary students’ strike planned for Tuesday will be extended by an additional day.

“The strike is another step, but it is not the last step. If a solution is not found until Tuesday evening, we will extend the strike by another day, until Wednesday,” Batito said

The planned strike is a protest against the decision of the teachers’ union to cancel all field trips, and to protest the ongoing driving examiners strike.

"There seems to be a crowd of seven hundred and fifty thousand teenage boys and girls that are forgotten about in Israel,” said Batito.

“We are not against the workers' committees and not against government offices, but we are calling for a change in the country’s damaging policy that allows such labor disputes to be conducted.”

The National Student and Youth Council indicated that alternative field trips will be held during the day of the strike in three locations – north, central and south Israel – in cooperation with the Society for the Protection of Nature.
