Johannesburg - The Johannesburg Jewish Community assembled on Sunday night for an emergency prayer vigil called by the Chief Rabbi, the Rabbinical Court and the South African Rabbinical Association. Publicized under the banner \"Pray for our People - 60 Minutes for Israel,\" an estimated 6,000 attended at the 1500-capacity Oxford Synagogue. An overflow was arranged in an adjacent hall with a live audio-visual feed, and there too it was standing room only. Outside, hundreds of young people who couldn\'t get in spontaneously broke into songs for Israel. Attendees said that the vigil was the largest, most successful and most stirring event for Israel in recent memory.
Detroit - The Federation of Metropolitan Detroit held a solidarity rally Monday night at which attendees lit candles in memory of those murdered during the Passover holiday. Close to 1,000 people attended the event which was organized the same day.
Manhattan - This Sunday, April 7 at 11 AM, several American Jewish organizations (including Amcha, Betar/Tagar, and the International Zionist youth movement) are calling upon the public to attend a support rally outside the Consulate General of Israel, 800 Second Avenue at 42nd Street in Manhattan.
