Also last night, security forces killed the terrorist responsible for a shooting attack in the Southern Hevron Hills area at Shema Junction that resulted in the wounding of several persons all reported in light condition.
Two more Arabs suspected of collaboration with Israeli security authorities were executed in PLO-controlled Bethlehem during the night. The executions were carried out in the police station there. They were murdered, as were others during the week in other PLO areas, without the benefit of a court trial or due process.
One Arab male was killed and a second seriously wounded in a shooting attack against their truck on the road near the Shomron community of Kochav HaShahar, in the Benjamin Regional Council district. Police report that an unknown Jewish organization has claimed responsibility for the murder, labeled a revenge attack for the ongoing Arab terror. Police are investigating, adding that all possible motives are being examined.
Several members of the far-left Tikkun Advisory Board have resigned from the organization in protest over the full page ad published in the New York Times by Michael Lerner, editor of the American magazine, in support of Israeli reservists who refuse to serve in the IDF. Assaf Oron, one of those reservists evading duty in the army, wrote an open letter to American Jews wherein he writes that “even other Jews considering themselves supporters of peace have denounced the Tikkun ad... This has so saddened, alarmed and angered me, that I find myself setting aside a half-day at the eve of Passover, and writing this open letter to you all.”
On Friday at about 8 PM, the Jewish Community Center in Lutsk (Ukraine) was attacked by a man armed with a knife. The man tried to break into the building of the center. The older porter who was trying to stop him was wounded in his face with the knife. Than attacker escaped. Law-enforcement immediately arrived at the stage of crime. The investigation is under way. Representatives of the community say that it was anti-Semitic act and connected with ongoing troubles in Israel as attacker shout anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli slogans. The victim of the crime was immediately hospitalized and now back to home. Jewish institutions and synagogues around the world have been putting greater security measures in place after Islamic terrorists have threatened to strike at Jewish and American targets. Synagogues will be on alert during the upcoming last day of Passover (tonight) and the Sabbath thereafter.
Middle East Newsline reports that Egypt has completed a major ground military exercise near
the Suez Canal. The exercise was conducted by the Egyptian Third Army and consisted of live fire by infantry and land platforms. The last stage of the exercise began on Wednesday. The official Egyptian news agency, MENA, said the exercise was meant to train combat skills of the infantry. The Third Army exercise included tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery and anti-tank units. The army was also provided air support in an exercise meant to simulate a ground offensive.
