Anti-Semitism reared its ugly head in Europe over the weekend. Vandals yesterday burnt a synagogue to the ground in the Southern French city of Marseille. No injuries were reported in the blaze. The fire destroyed the synagogues\' Torah scrolls and other sacred books. The same synagogue was the target of an attack last October, when Jew-haters hurled a Molotov cocktail at the building.

Yesterday\'s incident was the latest in a series of attacks on Jewish targets in France. On Saturday, a synagogue in the city of Lyon was damaged when vandals crashed two cars through the building\'s outer gate and then rammed one of vehicles into the synagogue\'s sanctuary before lighting it on fire. In two other incidents, a gunman opened fire on a kosher butcher shop, and a Jewish couple in their 20\'s was hurt yesterday in an attack in the country\'s Rhone region.

In Brussels, Belgium late Sunday night, assailants threw five Molotov cocktails through the windows of a synagogue. There were no injuries reported, but significant damage was done to the building. The Belgian government denounced the attack. There has been a sharp increase in the number of anti-Semitic incidents reported throughout Europe since the Oslo War was launched 18 months ago.
