US Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power on Sunday visited the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem together with Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon, as part of her ongoing official visit to the Jewish state.

The two were given a tour of the museum, where they learned about the various artifacts and pieces of testimony from the Nazi genocide of Europe's Jewry that are housed at the site.

"The Holocaust is an inseparable part of the story of the establishment of the state of Israel and the history of the Jewish people," said Danon.

"The state of Israel is obligated to preserve the security of its citizens as part of the difficult lesson that the Holocaust taught us."

While in Jerusalem, Power also met with Opposition head MK Yitzhak Herzog (Zionist Union) in Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon.

In the meeting Herzog reiterated his recent statements saying that the two-state solution is not viable now, and therefore called for unilateral steps to be taken by Israel to divide the country and prevent a "binational state."

Outlining the plan which he presented to US Secretary of State John Kerry earlier this month, Herzog called to build a massive fence separating between the Jews and Palestinian Arabs, unilaterally splitting the Jewish state.

He said the Palestinian Authority (PA) would be given civilian authority over its region according to his plan, while the IDF would retain security authority until a peace deal is signed.

Herzog also reiterated his call for a regional committee with Jordan, Egypt and other Arab states to advance the fight against terror groups and introduce "confidence building measures."
