Rabbi Chaim Cheifrut, 52, who was injured in the December 12, 2001 Arab bombing/shooting attack at the Emanuel Junction in the Shomron, has died of his injuries. He becomes the 11th fatality of the attack.

Cheifrut was treated for shrapnel wounds to his leg following the incident and was released from the hospital on the same night, apparently with only light injuries. Over time however, the Rabbi’s condition began to deteriorate. He felt constant pains in his leg and experienced fatigue. A week after the attack his leg began to swell and doctors decided to perform emergency surgery in order to stop a growing systemic infection. During surgery however, Cheifrut went into cardiac arrest and never regained consciousness.

Rabbi Cheifrut was laid to rest last night in Jerusalem’s Har Menuchot Cemetery. He is survived by his wife and six children.
