Former President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres had an ambulance called up to his home on Sunday night after not feeling well, just several weeks after suffering a heart attack.

The 92-year-old president was hospitalized at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer, after initially being treated at home.

He was hospitalized after a slight irregularity in his heartbeat was picked up. His condition is stable and he is conscious.

Peres's spokesperson said afterwards in a statement that he suffered from chest pains, and an EKG scan found a minor irregularity in his heartbeat. On the decision of his doctors he will spend the night at the hospital, where he will undergo a series of checks.

Peres was released from the hospital last Tuesday, after being hospitalized two weeks ago for a minor heart attack.

Over the weekend US President Barack Obama called Peres to wish him well.

"I was lucky to be treated by a dedicated medical team that worked around the clock, not only to open and improve my artery but to improve my heart. I left hospital stronger than I entered," said Peres in the phone call.

Peres also praised the controversial Iran nuclear deal in the call, telling Obama, "you handled a regional and world crisis courageously. Your unmeasurable contribution to citizens of the world will live for many years. I want to thank you for seven years of excellent leadership, where you built varied channels and new horizons for citizens of the United States but also for citizens of the world."
