
The much loved British actor Alan Rickman has died at the age of 69 after suffering from cancer.
The award winning actor passed away in hospital this morning, surrounded by relatives and friends.
Rickman was famously known for his roles as a villain, appearing as Hans Gruber in Die Hard, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Professor Severs Snape in the Harry Potter films.
Rickman also directed My Name is Rachel Corrie, a play based on the diaries and emails of an anti-Israel activist who died after throwing herself in front of a bulldozer.
During his career, he won a BAFTA, a Golden Globe award, an Emmy and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
