Has Woody Allen become an Israeli journalist? The answer apparently is yes, if you go by Hamas’s newspaper.

The daily newspaper, Palestine, is published in Gaza and also appears on the internet.

The newspaper serves as a propaganda mouthpiece for the Hamas rulers of Gaza, and is regularly used to attack the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, which Hamas regards as a bitter rival. The newspaper also encourages acts of violence against Israel and closely monitors political and security developments in Israel.

The newspaper often devotes a quarter-page to an articles translated from the Israeli press, and usually articles that serve Hamas’s interests (Israeli reports on the intifada, accusing Israel of war crimes, etc.).

On Thursday, the newspaper published an article by Alex Fishman of Yedioth Ahronoth on the intifada, and which noted that the Palestinian security forces received instructions to prevent demonstrators from arriving at points of friction with the IDF. This article serves Hamas's interest to present the Palestinian Authority as operating against the intifada.

But the newspaper made a funny error in publishing Fishman’s article. Instead of a photo of Fishman, the newspaper’s editor used a picture of the famous American Jewish actor Woody Allen.
