He was named as 37-year-old Mazen Hassan Orebeih from Abu Dis neighborhood in Jerusalem.
Orebeih was killed by IDF return fire, after opening fire at the checkpoint from the direction of the Arab village of Hizme.

One of the victims was hospitalized in serious condition, while a second was lightly wounded.
Palestinian Authority officials confirmed the attacker was a member of the PA's security forces, although they did not specify his rank.
