Former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz on Monday spoke publicly on his thoughts on the establishment of a Palestinian state, and how to end the current wave of terror.

“The IDF must act in any way necessary” to stop terror, said Gantz. “It cannot be limited to acting in a specific time or place. It acts on the relevant information and intelligence.” The current wave of terror is the Palestinians' doing, and it is up to them “to take action and cool off the situation.”

Gantz was speaking in a panel discussion at a conference on the peace process at Bar Ilan University. Also appearing at the conference were President Reuven Rivlin, and former South African leader Frederick William de Klerk.

In the first political statement Gantz made on the security situation since leaving the IDF, Gantz said that he was a supporter of Prime Minister' Binyamin Netanyahu's Bar Ilan University speech, in which he praised the idea of Palestinian state. “The Prime Minister spoke about progressing diplomatically while ensuring full security. I agree with almost every word of that speech.”
