Hundreds of people attended the funeral of 19-year-old Binyamin Ya'akobovitz on Monday night, after the Border Police officer who was wounded last week in a car ramming attack at Halhoul Junction near Hevron died from his injuries.

The attack occurred last Wednesday at around 16:00, when a Palestinian driver accelerated directly at a group of Border Police, plowing directly into Binyamin.

Other officers standing nearby opened fire at the car, killing the terrorist at the scene.

Binyamin was evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital with serious head injuries, and had been fighting for life in intensive care until Sunday evening, when he finally succumbed to his wounds.

He leaves behind his parents, two sisters, and a brother.

Ya'akobovitz was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Ata on Monday night, escorted by family, friends, and colleagues.

Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan eulogized the young officer.

"Benny, you fought specifically to be drafted into the Border Police, just because you wanted to save lives - and you gave your all at the front line," he said. "All your life was one long sequence of dedication and giving to your family, friends, and country."

"How symbolic is it that this supreme virtue that characterized your life, which was cut short, [still] continues to characterize you even after your death."

"Your parents' decision to donate your organs, your entirely heroic decision, reflects noble values and explains to us how you grew up to be the person you were," he added.

Border Police commander, Major General Amos Yaakov, said that "the security arena demands us to [complete] tasks requiring courage, determination and devotion, we are proving every day that we are willing to stand up and be a strong protective wall for the people and the state, in every sense of the word."

"On behalf of the Border Patrol and people of Israel, I salute you and ensure that the spirit which is fighting for its life until the last minute, we will continue to stand tall and strong against all the threats that are before us," he stressed, noting the young officer's loss came at a "very high price."
