Interior Minister Eli Yeshai has asked cities and towns around Israel to make sure to enforce the Holiday of Matzot Law of 1986. The law forbids the public display of chametz (leaven) - products such as bread, pita, cakes, and anything else comprising \"chametz flour\" - during and immediately before the holiday of Passover, from midday Passover eve (or 24 hours earlier this year, because Passover eve falls on Shabbat) until sundown of the last day of the holiday (this year: Saturday night, Apr. 14). Some eight Druze citizens have been already been hired to patrol city streets and ensure that no store owners violate the law, which is punishable by a fine.
